The Conquered Isle of Trisda is governed by Marcello Dragna. It was the home of Scarlett and Donatella Dragna. It is one of the Conquered Isles and is part of the Meridian Empire.

Description[]

Trisda and the four other Conquered Isles have been a part of the Meridian Empire for more than sixty years. The people of the islands are still thought of as "the uncouth and undereducated peasants they'd been when the Empire had first subjugated them"[1] Trisda hosted Caraval fifty years ago.

Trisda is a tropical island and is very humid. Scarlett describes the air as "thick as soup". Trisda is an island of black sand, rocky coves, and sickly looking shrubs. The island always smells of fish.

Notable Locations[]

Del Ojos Beach[]

Del Ojos Beach is a beach on Trisda with a rocky black cove. On one end, the beach ends at a jagged, black cliff face. On the other end is a broken dock jutting into the water, past stones that look like uneven teeth. When Scarlett and Tella were younger, her father's guards warned them that the sparkling black sand of the beach was the burnt remains of private skeletons to keep them away from the shore. Del Ojos Beach is also where Felipe was murdered by Governor Dragna for helping Scarlett and Tella try to escape the island. When Scarlett attempts to keep Julian from taking her sister to Caraval, she meets him on this beach.

The Dragna Estate[]

The Dragna Estate is home to Marcello Dragna and his family. It is on the border of town, with more land than most. Marcello has never felt that his estate was large enough, so he is constantly building more. He's built guest rooms, courtyards, and hidden hallways to smuggle bottles of illegal alcohol and who knows what else. The estate has weatherworn white archways and clay-tiled halls. The highest point of the estate is the priests' confessional. It's a tall tower built out of white stones that gleam in the sun so that it's visible from town. The priests that maintain the confessional are very discreet about delivering messages for Scarlett and Tella that they don't want their father to see.
