Once Upon a Broken Heart is a series of three books written by Stephanie Garber. They take place in the Caraval universe with a new set of characters and new settings.
Evangeline Fox is the protagonist of this series, with Jacks (Prince of Hearts) a main character. Evangeline goes to him for help at the beginning of the first book, and subsequently upheaves her own life with a series of events connected to him.

I thought it would be fun to have a girl solve a murder while falling for someone with she suspected might actually be responsible for the murder...".[3]
- The series was initially marketed as a duology. Later on, the author said there might be a third book,[4][5] which was confirmed after the release of The Ballad of Never After[6] to be the final installment.[7]
