Personality[]
Maximilian was light-hearted, loving, and teasing. He liked to make Evangeline "feel as if her whole life were a fairytale."[1] He was a man faith, and always spoke of magic as if it were real. He raised his daughter to be curious, adventurous, and friendly.
Plot[]
Maximilian was a businessman. He hadn't been rich, because his ventures failed as often as they succeeded, but he was comfortable. He owned four and a half shops across Valenda. He'd been the silent half partner of a tailor shop that sewed weapons into clothing. Max had built a secret bookshop that was only accessible by a secret passage. He had a store in the Spice Quarter that was covered in decorative Wanted posters with captions that read like short outlandish crime stories. His third shop was a secret from everyone. The fourth shop, and Evangeline's favorite, was Maximilian's Curiosities, Whimsies & Other Oddities.
About a year after his wife Liana died, Maximilian decided that he must marry again. He believed he needed a wife to look after Evangeline in case anything ever happened to him. Six months after marrying Agnes Tourmaline, he died.

A Curse for True Love[]
When Evangeline travelled to the Cursed Forest to search for Prince Apollo who was attending the Hunt, she was attacked, ran into the forest, and became lost. She came across streets and storefronts that were familiar to her, the streets she grew up on in Valenda. When she walked into her father's curiosity shop, she heard voices, and ventured further in. She followed the voices upstairs, belonging to her mother and father, but no matter how far she went, she couldn't find them. This was part of the forest's curse.
Her parents told her not to go upstairs as they had a surprise for her, but she was too excited by the thought of seeing them. Chaos eventually found her, dragging her attention away from her parents.
