Luc Navarro was Evangeline Fox's first love. She was heartbroken when she learned he was marrying her step-sister, Marisol Tourmaline.
Appearance[]
Luc has brown skin, brown hair, and warm brown eyes. He has a crooked boyish grin, and smells of suede and vetiver.
After being turned into a vampire, Luc's skin becomes flawless and too perfect. His irises contain shimmering gold flecks. His boyish grin is gone, and has sharp white fangs that make his mouth seem full.
People view Luc as young, attractive, tall, and unattached.

Luc has a carefree personality. He enjoys attention, and is always teasing and entertaining people.
Biography[]
Luc is the only son of a wealthy, upper-class family in Valenda. His family live on the fashionable far edge of town.
Once Upon a Broken Heart[]
Luc and Evangeline had been secretly dating for two weeks. However, Luc and Marisol, Evangeline's step-sister, announced that they are engaged to be married. This leads a confused and devastated Evangeline to find the Prince of Hearts' church, where she asks Jacks for help in stopping the wedding. As a result of their bargain, Jacks turns Luc, Marisol, and the rest of the wedding party to stone. Evangeline regrets her decision and takes their places as a stone statue.
When Luc and Marisol try to get married a second time, two weeks after their disastrous first attempt, Luc is attacked by a wild wolf and badly mauled. In the weeks since, he does not leave his house, refusing to see Marisol. He sends her a note telling her that he has left Valenda in hopes of finding a healer, but plans to return to her.
When Evangeline and Jacks are leaving Chaos's lair, a voice calls out to Evangeline. It is Luc, locked in a hanging cage. He has become a vampire changeling. Luc tells Evangeline the truth about what happened. Marisol had put him under the curse of a love spell. He had come to Evangeline's house to see her but Marisol opened the door. When she took his coat, her fingers touched his neck and he was immediately under her curse. He became obsessed with having Marisol and proposed to her. After being mauled by the wolf, Luc felt like he needed to be perfect for Marisol. He didn't know this until he'd been bitten and the vampire venom removed it. He came to the vampires because he'd heard that vampire venom was the most powerful healer in the world, and it would erase his scars and wounds.
Evangeline feels guilty for her part in what led Luc to become a vampire. She gives him a sword to break free from his cage. He promises her that he won't bite her, but he is unable to control himself. Immediately after breaking out of his cage, he rushes to bite Evangeline. Jacks shoves her out of the way and Luc bites him instead. Lightning fast, Jacks breaks Luc's neck. But because he is now a full-fledged vampire, Luc is not dead, and will wake up healed.
The Ballad of Never After[]
A coronation is organized for Luc, as Chaos uses his connections in the kingdom to promote Luc as a distant cousin of Apollo, following Apollo's presumed 'death'. He uses the name Lucien Jareth Acadian, and news spreads around the kingdom that he is kindhearted. He reportedly builds homes for the poor, finds families to look after stray dogs and kittens, and teaches orphans how to read. Preparations for Lucien's Nocte Neverending are underway before he arrives at Wolf Hall.
A number of Wolf Hall's maids are excited to meet the new crown prince. They adorn their hair with sprigs of winterberry- the flowers represent welcome. They believe Prince Lucien will be young, tall, and more handsome than Prince Apollo.
Upon his arrival at Wolf Hall, Prince Lucien requests an audience with Evangeline. When she meets with him, she realizes Lucien Acadian is Luc Navarro, and his status as the kingdom's heir is a ruse organized by Chaos. He reveals that although the name is a lie, apparently he really is a distant relation of Apollo.
While in the solarium with Luc, the back of Evangeline's hand begins to bleed. This means that Apollo has been hurt. Evangeline and Apollo are experiencing a mirror curse, so if one is injured, so is the other. The blood on Evangeline affects Luc, and he loses control. He races across the room to her, but can do no harm before Jacks appears and pushes Luc away. He drags Evangeline into the hallway, away from the vampire.
Evangeline spots Marisol in the hallway, waiting to meet the prince. She realizes that Marisol is going to be fed on. Evangeline begs with Jacks to stop Marisol from going in there, and Jacks complies.
Luc meets Evangeline in a magical forest after she visits Tiberius. He wishes to apologize to her for what happened in Wolf Hall, and show her a gold invitation for Lala's engagement party. He asks Evangeline to accompany him, but she refuses, instead going with Jacks to search for the missing arch stones.
On the first night of the engagement party, when everyone has gone to bed, Evangeline creeps into the tomb of Glendora Slaughterwood, searching for one of the missing arch stones. Luc spots Evangeline sneaking out of her room, and follows her. He aids her in removing the top of Glendora's casket, finding a yellow arch stone within. Luc asks Evangeline to be his date to the costume party the following night, but Evangeline fears that wouldn't be a wise idea. She promises him a dance instead.
The second night of Lala and Robin Slaughterwood's engagement party, Luc finds Evangeline in the crowd, attempting to cash in the dance she owes him. Evangeline has no time to react before Jacks interrupts.
Powers[]
Upon being turned into a vampire, Luc becomes immortal. He also has preternatural speed, healing, and the ability to use allure to control humans.
The only way to permanently kill a vampire is to cut off their head or shove a wooden stake through their heart.
Relationships[]
Evangeline Fox[]
Luc and Evangeline began a secret relationship shortly after her father's funeral. They are together for a short time, until Luc and Marisol announce that they are engaged to be married. After Evangeline reaches out to Jacks for help, she does not see Luc for months, until they run into each other in Chaos' home. Luc tries to get close to Evangeline after becoming a vampire, but Evangeline always tries to hold him at an arm's length.
Marisol Tourmaline[]
Luc and Marisol were engaged to be married. They attempt two weddings, with neither reaching the vows. Luc insists on not seeing Marisol after being attacked by a wolf the day of the second wedding. He disappears, asking Chaos for help to heal him. When he becomes the prince of the Magnificent North, he requests to meet with Marisol, but Evangeline and Jacks know it was for him to feed on her. Jacks uses his powers to send Marisol away from the solarium where Luc is waiting.
Trivia[]
- A fan asked Stephanie Garber about Luc's whereabouts in A Curse for True Love as he didn't appear at all in the book. Stephanie said that in her mind, he was warned by two maidens that Apollo was back and he escaped with the maidens to an inn that is cursed so you can't be found unless you want to be. Another idea she had in mind was that he ran off and joined the Guild of Heroes. She clarified that this isn't canon until she actually writes it down.[1]
