The Great Houses are a group of the most well-known and wealthy houses in the Magnificent North. They are lead by the King or Queen. The most recent leader is Prince Apollo.

- House Slaughterwood: Most known member, Vengeance Slaughterwood.
- House Merrywood: Most known member, Lyric Merrywood. House Merrywood had been slain.
- House Acadian: Most known member, Apollo Titus Acadian.
- House Fortuna: Most known member, Tabitha Fortuna. All of them died in A Curse for True Love.
- House Belleflower: Most known member, Lord Byron Belleflower.
- House Casstel: Most known member, Lady Casstel.
- House Vale: Most known member, Wolfric Vale.
The newest Great House is House Vale, held by Wolfric Valor (posing as Wolfric Vale).
Age of Great Houses[]
When the Valors built the Valory, they sealed something inside of it. It was said their heads were all chopped off, ending the Age of the Valors and ushering in the Age of Great Houses.
It was in between these ages that the Valory Arch stones had been created and hidden away. (Unfortunately, Evangeline could find little about that mysterious time in between.)
When Evangeline reads about the Age of Great Houses, it often flickers and changes to the Age of Great Curses as she reads.
Mist fell like tears in Valorfell, coating the streets with shadows and cold while people wept silently in their homes. Most mourned the great Valor family, but few let it show, for fear the Great Houses would slay them as well. - A History of Famous Beheadings
The Fall of the Age of Great Houses[]
When Prince Apollo becomes trapped in the Tree of Souls, there is no heir next in line for the Acadian throne. As a result, most of the Great Houses have fallen, leaving the Valors with their kingdom once again.
