Aurora Valor is a princess of The Magnificent North. She is a member of the Valors, the first royal family in the North, and daughter of Wolfric and Honora Valor. Castor Valor is her twin brother. She is sister to Vesper, Tempest, Romulus, Dane, and Lysander Valor.

Appearance[]

Aurora is perceived as the most beautiful girl in the North, looking like a fairytale princess. She has a heart-shaped face, bottle-green eyes, and hair that shimmers the color of violets. Aurora has a sweet smile and a musical voice.

Personality[]

Aurora is a cunning girl, not afraid to fight for what she wants. She is aware of her beauty, and not humble about it.

She had written a diary and hidden it in the Hollow. The opening page claimed that the book was cursed, and whoever read it would die. It was never proven to be true. Aurora also had a secret room under a tree at the Hollow, full of spell books, recipes, and ingredients. There was a spell book in this room, but when opened, revealed to be another diary, more specifically written about her experiences learning magic.

Biography[]

Aurora’s twin brother, Castor, was part of the Merrywood Three with Jacks, known as Archer, and Lyric Merrywood. Aurora was secretly in love with Jacks, and she put the Archer’s curse on him because her sister, Vesper, could see the future, telling her that Jacks would fall in love with a fox. Jacks broke free of the Archer curse, but when he kissed his fox, she died.

Aurora wanted the attention of Vengeance Slaughterwood and Lyric Merrywood to make Jacks jealous. Lyric, Lord Merrywood's only son, was too good-hearted to realize what a mistake it was to love Aurora Valor. He was so desperately in love with her that he dismissed the dangerous fact that she was engaged to Vengeance Slaughterwood. Aurora and Vengeance had been betrothed since Aurora's birth.

Aurora tried to break off the wedding to marry Lyric, and told her father that she would not go through with the marriage to Vengeance. Wolfric did not agree, and forced her to continue with the marriage. On the morning of the wedding, she ran away. That was when Vengeance learned of her affair with Lyric Merrywood.

The day at Merrywood Manor when Vengeance attacked, Castor tried to warn Lyric. Jacks wasn't there when it happened. When Jacks arrived, everyone was dead except for Castor. Castor was stabbed in the back, and Jacks brought him to Honora, the greatest healer in all of the North. But Castor died, and Honora resurrected him. Castor became the vampire Chaos. Chaos ended up killing the Merrywood family, except for Lala. The Valors built the Valory and sealed themselves inside except for Chaos, ending the Age of the Valors and ushering in the Age of Great Houses.

The Ballad of Never After[]

When staying at the Hollow with Jacks, healing, Evangeline and Jacks spot words carved into the wall beside the clock in the entrance. The words read Aurora + Jacks. Jacks admits that he never knew they were there.

A couple of days after they arrive at the Hollow, Evangeline finds a room she presumes to have belonged to Aurora. The wardrobe is full of dresses, and she manages to find a diary authored by Aurora.

The opening page of the diary claims the book has been cursed, and whoever reads it would die. It is never proven to be true, but Evangeline worries if she will die once she leaves the magical safety of the Hollow. In the diary, Aurora wrote about her feelings towards Vengeance, and the marriage she was forced into.

A Curse for True Love[]

Aurora introduces herself to Evangeline at a ball Apollo was holding at Wolf Hall. She appears nice and talkative, but is also challenging the authority of her parents, telling Evangeline the story of what happened to the Merrywood land.

It is revealed that Apollo made a deal with Aurora, asking her to help him remove Evangeline's memories. She also makes a deal with Jacks, to give him the Slaughterwood Cuff in return for his heart. Jacks wishes to put the cuff on Evangeline, stopping anyone from ever being able to hurt her.

When Evangeline gets her memories back, she and Lala learn what Aurora and Apollo had done. They travel to the Hollow, searching for Aurora. Instead, they find her secret study beneath a tree. Inside is full of spell books, recipes, and ingredients. Evangeline and Lala look around, hoping to find Aurora or Jacks' heart. Instead, she finds a book titled Aurora's Book of Spells.

Inside this book, she wrote about the spells she was learning and her journey with magic. She remarked that she had managed to change the color of her hair to violet. She also admitted that the boy she loved was Jacks. People believed that she had been in love with Lyric, but it was truly Jacks all along. These feelings were not mutual.

Trivia[]

  • In the Owl Crate alternate ending of A Curse for True Love, Aurora goes to the Tree of Souls intending to drink its blood in hopes that in exchange for her immortality, it would take Jacks' life. She can't bring herself to do it, but notices the prophecy intended to free Apollo Acadian written by Evangeline Fox and Jacks. On a whim, she spills her blood to see if it would free Apollo but another young man, presumably a prince, is freed from the tree instead. The alternate endings are not considered canonical per the author's note.
